    Summer Solstice Festival

Celebrate the longest day of the year with music, art, dance and culinary delights.  The Shaker Arts Council in cooperation with the City of Shaker Heights is sponsoring the 5th annual Summer Solstice Festival on Saturday, June 21, 2008 from 5-10 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine at the Shaker Heights Community Colonnade, 3450 Lee Road (between Chagrin and Van Aken Boulevards).

Scheduled musical performances include the musical drums of PANic Steel, Workmen’s Circle Klezmer Orchestra, Skatastrophes, an up and coming ska-pop-punk band and Mo’ Mojo Mama, a New-Orleans style zydeco band.  William Clarence Marshall, an audience favorite at “In Concert with Ludlow”, will return for an encore performance.

Art will be the theme with activities for children, street performers and hand-crafted creations from community artisans.  Local food purveyors will provide delicious, reasonably priced fare.  Inspired by centuries-old worldwide traditions, at dusk, rhythm specialist Cindy Hill will lead a circle of drummers around a glowing bonfire.  Drums will be provided or use your own.

Bring a lawn chair, blanket and comfortable shoes just in case the music brings out the dance in you.

Beginning Thursday, June 19th, the 4th annual Sounds Around Town will be showcasing live music from local talent at public venues through the week leading up to the festival.   Visit http://www.shakerartscouncil.org/  for the latest updates.
