How to help Kevin McDermott
The couple who are coordinating the assistance are Craig and Rick McDonald of 3124 Warrington Road (midway between Southington and Onaway on the Van Aken side of the street). Craig has already coordinated enough meals for the next couple of months, and three of the four McDermott children can drive (they range in age from seventh grader to college junior), so they don’t need meals or errand runners. But Kevin McDermott (a self-employed lawyer) won’t be able to begin putting weight on his leg for another ten weeks, so it is financial assistance that Craig and Rick are now coordinating: she is turning the contributions into gift cards good for Heinens, gas, etc., and he is having his secretary prepare a master list of all contributors (with amounts kept confidential, of course). They will be presenting this batch of gift cards, notes, and master list to the McDermotts on Friday evening, and they plan to keep turning contributions into gift cards after that date.
If you’d like to contribute an amount of your choosing, drop it into their mail slot or mail it to them. A check may be made out to “Craig McDonald” or to “Rick McDonald.”
Rick says Kevin looks “a thousand percent better” now than at first. My thanks to Rick and Craig, and to Nancy Moore, who answered my question at last night’s Onaway Association meeting about how to help by telling me to contact the McDonalds.
