    Rawnsdale Road Fire

    Dear neighbors,

By now, many of you will have heard about the tragic fire on Rawnsdale Road on Friday night, where 2 children died (a 6 yr old Lomond student and a 2 yr old) and a baby is still in critical condition.  I am convening a meeting of the Executive Committee to discuss the Association’s response to this incident.  As an Association dedicated to the quality of life in our neighborhood and enhancing the sense of connectedness among neighbors, I believe it is fitting that we mobilize our resources to respond to this family in their time of extreme need.

I have already spoken with Sue Alig, Lomond Principal, and Fire Chief Barnes to see what could be done at this point.  The Fire Chief indicated to me that we should keep the family in our thoughts and that we should wait to see what the family will need,  Sue Alig has been in touch with the family and keep us informed about any needs that she is aware of and any initiatives undertaken by the school, so that we can work together.  Sue did share with me that the family would probably be in need of funds for the children’s funeral expenses.  The Fire Chief said that with the Lansmere fire over the summer, the neighborhood set up a fund at a local bank.  At this point, much seems to be up in the air.

I have no doubt that many Lomond community members will want to know how they can help.  The Executive Committee will discuss ideas for an Association response and share our plan via e-mail.  If you have specific ideas of how the Association should help, I encourage you to send an e-mail to lomond.association@gmail.com with your suggestions, or contact one of the Executive Committee members directly at the following e-mail addresses:
